I fear the end is drawing nigh

A while back I worried about the direction something I care about very much was starting to take. It's gone well down that road now, and everything I feared and more is coming true.

If the winds don't change direction soon, either it goes out with a whimper or I go out with a very big bang. I would prefer that neither happens, but that's not the choice I'm being presented with. I know my foe of old, who always ends with a jade's trick.
