As fun as it is to surf the web instead of do the writing I'm supposed to be doing, I'm supposed to be referencing the kinds of things that are common knowledge rather than Neato Things Wot I've Discovered.

So....

Question the first: Name a couple of really, really famous women's gold medal Olympians of the 70s and early 80s. I'm thinking record-breaking world-wide famous: Nadia Comaneci. Mary Lou Retton. Jayne Torvill.

Question the second: Is there a date for the legalization of contraception in the UK?

Question the third: Was the Refreshment Houses Act of 1860 banning the sale of coffee to women really a big deal in the UK of the 1960s or am I smacking into the results of bored reporters looking for an angle?

Y'know, I've finally figured out why I don't think Big Bang Theory is all that rude to fandom. It's not just that at the end of the episode it's shown that the BBT characters are intelligent and talented and members of a much wider tribe of fandom. It's because I've seen the Graham Norton show, and not only is he as offensive as possible to everyone, he goes out of his way to get everyone to laugh at REAL fans and stars, not fictional characters.

There are millions of examples, but this particular rant has been brought to you by the turning of some talented slash artists into "ZOMG, you'll be scarred for life if you see it!" attempts to humiliate Martin Freeman on camera and Norton's badgering Ben into saying "Cumberbitches," a coinage neither he nor a large chunk of the fandom appreciates.

Big Bang is practically an episode of Mr. Roger's Neighborhood in comparison.
