A rant and a request
Mar. 18th, 2015 07:56 amTHE RANT:
A moment's ranting about an anti-mandatory-vax editorial in North Jersey.com.
"Government shouldn't prohibit religious beliefs from addressing issues of safety, cleanliness or bodily integrity" someone whines, conveniently forgetting that Government ALREADY prohibits these things when they affect anyone other than the moron whining about them. Just ask the gazillions of people fined or in jail for (off the top of my head):
- speeding down a highway while nursing while on the phone while taking notes because "my religion says I have to do whatever my husband says and he said to do that." (I will give unwilling points to the husband who actually offered to do her jail time. The judge, however, pointed out that she has to take responsibility for her own actions)
- setting up a rickety shed in the back yard of a residential area and claiming it's a "church" so should be exempt from both building codes and parking laws.
- claiming that it is government overreach for taking "loved and cared for children away" for doctoring said children with industrial bleach. Taken orally. (Bonus points for whining that the kids are "not dressed right" - i.e., the girls now wear jeans - and that "they have many authorities when they should have only one. Me.")
- Beating children to death because "The Bible says 'spare the rod and spoil the child'."
Reality. It doesn't go away when you close your eyes and shout "LA LA LA LA LA" really loudly.
THE REQUEST:
So, I had a stress test (as if my life wasn't one!) The good news: my heart is sound and I can do brisk exercise. The bad news: my heart is sound, so I need to do brisk exercise.
Just 7 minutes on that treadmill was nasty. I'm going to need some goal to really reach for to keep me on my own treadmill/walking. It has to be something big, expensive, and flashy - something worth the striving for. Something that I can "earn." But it can't be something I'm already planning on doing, because there's no "earn" there. It can't be something that requires a lot of planning before the getting, because again, that takes the "earn" out of it. (Unless I earn my way to milestones that let me pre-plan? But then what becomes of said plans if I don't "earn" the next part?)
TL;DR: Am looking for big fancy motivation for exercise. "If I walk xx miles by yy date, I can... " ... what?
