From the "Not Even Remotely Getting It" Department:
Rush Limbaugh on the latest kidnapees in Iraq:
[There's] part of me that likes this. And some of you might say, "Rush, that's horrible. Peace activists taken hostage." Well, here's why I like it. I like any time a bunch of leftist feel-good hand-wringers are shown reality. So here we have these peace activists over there. I don't care if they're Christian or not. They're over there, and as peace activists.

Rush, m'dear, you may not care if they're Christian or not, but Christ probably does, and his "naughty or nice" list has a lot more punch to it than Santa's. And what puts someone on Christ's "nice" list? Well, for extra credit, can you name the Christmas carol with the line: "Hail the Heav'n-born Prince of Peace"?

Tech Toys!
I just got is a new cell phone. I'm moving from a contract to a pay-as-you-go plan, which will probably not only work out to be cheaper, but will also make sure that nobody will ever be stuck for a gift idea for me again, as basic minute cards come pretty cheap. (Not that it's hard to ever buy presents for me - my wishlist tends to read "Dear Santa - I want it all!")

And the downloadable ringtones are too cool. No Harry Potter, but I can get the Twilight Zone, Pink Panther, and Ghostbusters themes. And there's a composer, so if I ever get stuck with too much time on my hands, I could try to electronically recreate something from Lagaan or Taal. That would have the virtue of novelty - my phone would never be mistaken for anyone else's ring!

Decorating Decisions
I tend to want to redecorate around January. Usually this is kept to rearranging a room. However, in 2006, I've been thinking that if this is the year to put in a table for the new desktop computer and a new media center, then it's also time to seriously repaint. I'm thinking a pale sage for the walls in the living room and maybe the hall, while I'll throw my biggest guns into redoing the bedroom in "Bollywood bordello." When I moved a new chair back there and threw an old tan and burgandy Indian blanket on it, it really worked with the dark furniture. So I'm thinking turquoise or deep blue walls, saris as window drapes, maybe a burgandy area rug, and I'll bump the silk crazy quilt to the top of the sewing queue. Target has a "Global Image" or something like that line; I'm going to see about replacing one of my book towers with the Indian-style towel tower.

I'd thought about doing shabby chic, but it's just not going to work with that dark walnut furniture. And I'm *not* throwing out my Granpa's stuff for some lighter, brighter chipboard knock-together from Target!

Hey, if I redecorate one room every other year and reclaim a certain amount of lawn footage every year, then in about 10 years, I'm going to have a really nice place!
