Oh, yes, it was good. Very good. Not quite on the scale of Utopia - I do prefer more character moments than we got here - but still damn good. Jack was amazing again. Full of ideas and useful tech. He finally got to tell the Doctor about Torchwood. And he wanted to run up and kill the Master! Woohoo! And then we got that wonderful 'You too, huh?' moment :)) It's now officially canon!
And the Doctor. So much backstory. So much more honesty - and he said it because Jack asked, while he didn't for Martha. Interesting. Martha seemed to know he'd open up for Jack and not for her. And he's still so hopelessly naive in some ways: he really thinks he can reform the Master. :(
Martha... I'm torn in this episode. Yes, she did run away, and I didn't like that, even though I probably would have been so tempted to do the same :( I think I could have forgiven her that, but she was all 'it's all your fault' at the Doctor throughout the episode. Okay, I suppose she doesn't know that her mother was conspiring with Saxon's lot all along, but still. Maybe, too, though, the Doctor's reaping what he sowed? He has treated Martha badly along the way: why should he have all her loyalty? Except that she claims to love him - yet she ran away.
Okay, I'm sure she's going to do something wonderful that will save the day (and I'm still avoiding spoilers for the final ep), but the way they set that up I don't see that she calculated that her best way of helping was to get off the ship. It just didn't look like that, and that hurts. :P
Brilliant episode, though. John Simm rocks as the Master! And for once no Daleks in the season finale :)))
