Who on Earth in the English-speaking world doesn't know the line "In case of trouble, break glass"?
An immigrant? (Not sure if you are serious or not, but I've had family members who have come to the US, even speaking English well, who may find that phrase strange and foreign. I can't think of examples off the top of my head, but more than once I've had them ask me to explain something I've said or something they've read that made little sense to them.)
PS - I loved synecdochic's post. She expresses, very strongly, a lot of my own world view.
