I picked up one Desiree Shapiro mystery to read on a plane many years ago. I never finished it; she is beyond question the single most vapid, brainless, annoying protagonist I've ever had the misfortune to encounter. I depise women like that in real life (and they do exist); there's no way in hell I'm going to read about one for what's supposed to be my enjoyment!
(If she were the murderer, now that would be entirely different. But she doesn't have enough snap to commit a murder.)
