some of the cot_tossed reviewers put aside anonymity and were then attacked, sometimes viciously, for weeks on end
I know; I predicted that the moment I found out about cot_tossed, having seen the *exact same thing* playing out in at least four other fandoms, going back 30 years to Star Wars and the fanzine "Jundland Wastes" which also claimed that it had to be anon for honesty. (Only instead of suggesting how to vote, it was telling people what fanzines to buy, back in the days when people could beggar themselves printing something that didn't sell.) And the fury when people found out that someone who was sweet to their face had, as usual, taken the opportunity of a blank name to stab them in the back repeatedly was more epic than anything Who has ever kicked up. Because in the end, the sock *always* gets unveiled, and not always on their own.
What I haven't seen is that amount of bitterness about anyone who's talked about fanfiction under their own screenname. Even the person messaging you on AIM - are they attacking you viciously for weeks or dogpiling you with their friends? Because from here it's sounding like they're annoying but nowhere near the anger that's raised by socks.
