This is an unpaid advertisement for Dupont Optical, downtown DC. Remember the posts where I was whining and squirming because I just couldn't get the new glasses right? I got them adjusted at the For Eyes where I got them... and still couldn't see properly through them.

I got them readjusted at another For Eyes, and could see better, but still couldn't stop fussing with them.

So I finally broke down and took them to Dupont Optical.

Now, I can't say they're inexpensive - they do have a range of prices, but they don't take insurance. But I can say, wholeheartedly, that they know their stuff! I started going because my friend Doug works there (you know him as the long-term friend D who helped me buy a car; name used with permission) but I keep going for two reasons:

1) The doctor there runs tests that no other doctor has done for me, and thus I have the best vision I've had in a long time

and

2) The people working the counter know their stuff backwards and forwards. When I went in and said "I can't adjust to these," Doug took them off my face, tsked at me for twisting the frames... and then eyeballed them true. When they next went on my nose, they were adjusted PERFECTLY.

(This isn't just fond friendship; I've got a witness.)

If you're local to the DC area, if you've got vision problems, and if you want perfect service... really, go check out DuPont Optical.

Good! wondered why you didn't just go have Doug check them when they were first driving you nuts. I mean, that's what he does. glad things are better.

LOL I saw your subject header and started singing (in my head - since it's before 6.30 am!) "I can see clearly now the snow has gone."

Still, I'm glad that you can now see clearly...

I figured he'd yell at me for being unfaithful to Dupont. Instead, he snickered at me for that and then yelled at me for twisting the glasses myself.

The new new glasses are in... the For Eyes ones were always meant for wearing with garb and don't have very big lenses. Ah, peripheral vision, how I've missed you!

How I wish the snow has gone! Instead, I spend last night in an arm brace after I spent half an hour shoveling snow that had compacted and covered over with ice. When we were digging out, we forgot to leave a path to the oil intake, and I only just realized how low the tank was getting...

Congratulations! I know how annoying glasses that aren't quite right can be. :-)

Well, the weather's warming up and a delivery is scheduled for today, so it's all going to be fine in the long run. But ace (elastic) bandages Are My Friend.

I literally couldn't see. Augh! But Doug saw me right, and I thought I ought to tell folks rather than just coyly type "D fixed my glasses."

That's good news!

I use elastic bandages on my wrists, for RSI. Useful things!

lol!! I know what you mean about the peripheral vision, no one in the biz (including Doug!) believes me when I complain this modern tiny styles give me tunnel vision and knock out peripheral! They insist you don't use good focus for that anyway and you can still see. I don't really buy that though. I'm waiting for big glasses to come back! especially for bifocals.

I turned in a *huge* pair of 80s glasses when I got these. Doug and his boss practically screamed in horror.

I kind of miss aviators. If you really put your foot down, Dupont has some aviator frames hidden under the counter.

I'm wishing I had the option to swing by there -- I've been jacking with my new glasses since I got them last week, and still haven't quite gotten them positioned to an angle that feels right. I don't know how much might be down to my eyes having adjusted after this many months wearing catawompus glasses, and how much might be an illusory problem caused by watching a flat-panel TV screen at an angle, but it's annoying either way.

Go back to the people who gave 'em to you and fuss.

Not till I'm sure that the problem is with the glasses and not with my eyes.

If the prescription is right, the problem shouldn't be your eyes.

The scrip has hardly changed from the one in the glasses that were driving me nuts. And yet, there's this adjustment.

Part of the issue, though, seems to be that these frames have a surprising amount of "wiggle room" at the hinges where the earpieces meet the eyepieces, and it's not like they can be set and that's that -- I have to adjust them to the right position every time I put them on, and if they get jostled out of position I have to kind of find the right alignment again.

Hrm. I think someone worth their salt could do something about those hinges. I know Doug has loosened and tightened mine for me.

I don't want them loosened or tightened, they fit perfectly -- they just have a wide range of motion. By this point I am used to it and thinking of it as a feature rather than a bug.
