I can see clearly now...

This is an unpaid advertisement for Dupont Optical, downtown DC. Remember the posts where I was whining and squirming because I just couldn't get the new glasses right? I got them adjusted at the For Eyes where I got them... and still couldn't see properly through them.
I got them readjusted at another For Eyes, and could see better, but still couldn't stop fussing with them.
So I finally broke down and took them to Dupont Optical.
Now, I can't say they're inexpensive - they do have a range of prices, but they don't take insurance. But I can say, wholeheartedly, that they know their stuff! I started going because my friend Doug works there (you know him as the long-term friend D who helped me buy a car; name used with permission) but I keep going for two reasons:
1) The doctor there runs tests that no other doctor has done for me, and thus I have the best vision I've had in a long time
and
2) The people working the counter know their stuff backwards and forwards. When I went in and said "I can't adjust to these," Doug took them off my face, tsked at me for twisting the frames... and then eyeballed them true. When they next went on my nose, they were adjusted PERFECTLY.
(This isn't just fond friendship; I've got a witness.)
If you're local to the DC area, if you've got vision problems, and if you want perfect service... really, go check out DuPont Optical.

Date: 2010-03-01 06:24 pm (UTC)Part of the issue, though, seems to be that these frames have a surprising amount of "wiggle room" at the hinges where the earpieces meet the eyepieces, and it's not like they can be set and that's that -- I have to adjust them to the right position every time I put them on, and if they get jostled out of position I have to kind of find the right alignment again.
