WD: lj user="neadods"> thinks a href="http://neadods.livejournal.com/965583.html">Now we've firmly established the Moffat reign... but it's not quite what I'd hoped for

I put high hopes on the Moffat season, and was quickly disappointed after the premiere. I put very high hopes on this episode to pull things up and it delivered... partially.

The entire teaser was win made of win sauce on top. I loved the bit in the museum, I loved Amy being bored, I loved the Doctor going through and giving his own very characteristic catalog of what he's seen. And River Song rocks like a geology class in a quarry. Which is pretty appropriate, come to think of it.

There was some FABULOUS dialog!
- "YOU leave the brakes on." Marry me, River. (And I adore the shoes hanging off the monitor.)
- "Oooo, Doctor, you sonicked her." I won't marry you, Amy, but I'll cheat on River with you.

Also on the plus side, moving recordings is one of my favorite horror tropes and we get proactive companion with Amy figuring out the glitch and the remote. Also points for trying to blink with one eye at a time, which is what I thought about in the first episode.

Plus, it's visually lush. The CGI of that temple beats the snot out of the cheap snowflake alien ships of the premiere.

BUT!

Four episodes in, we've firmly established some more troubling tropes of the Moffat era. In order of least to most disappointing to me:

- He's giving continuity the same respect RTD did. The angels kill now? They're your own character and you can't keep their backstory consistent in only two uses?

- The characters of color are the first to be killed. Again. Damnit Moffat!

- The plot is moved along by several people making supremely stupidass decisions. Bob and Angelo knowing what they're after and then splitting up. The commander, also in full knowledge of what they're after, leaving Bob alone without hearing back from Christian and Angelo. WTFingF? DAMNIT MOFFAT, WHY DO YOU MAKE THE UNIVERSE FULL OF STUPID PEOPLE?

- And yes... I'm now convinced that Matt needed at least 5 more years experience before he'd
be completely ready to play all the aspects of the Doctor. He does zany and alien well, but he's just not selling the subtly darker side, although he was moving closer this episode.

I want to squee again. I miss my unabashed squee. But I'm seeing enough that I enjoy to stick around.
