For Non-Locals Coming to the Rallies

They're a little generic on actual places and speakers yet, but the bits about Metro (which the group with me will be taking) and the rules about what you can/can't have on the National Mall are real and accurate.

As the rallies are noon-3, I'm thinking of setting up a meet address around 4-4:30 for all the LJ flist who aren't crashing on the couch so we can all meet up. (I figure it's better to meet after so that non-locals can check out the Smithsonian before. You'll want to go early, because rally crowds fill up the museums and cause lines.)

Also - who's going to which rally? They run at the same time.

my gut says the "fear" rally might be more fun, but every other part of me wants to be at the "sanity" one.

Not sure what my schedule is like; will depend on train schedules or if I'm renting a car. Shall claim the sofa in the name of Meertkatia in advance for the night before...

I feel the same way - but with three hours to kill between them, I'm expecting a high amount of slopover between the two. (It's a bit tempting to make a double-sided sign, so it's possible to switch sides.) My plan is to get there at least 90 minutes early in hopes of checking out how each side is shaping up.

Yo! I'm here. And seriously, I'm good with a patch of floor or a recliner. (One thing I'm difficult about is snoring... I can sleep through t.v./radio/people talking/Chicago being Chicago... snoring is another issue.)

I'm going to the Sanity Rally. I think I'm going to write this week and see if they're giving media credentials to bloggers... if for some odd reason they do, that may do... something to my schedule.

There's no recliner, so you may end up with patch-of-floor... unless, how do you feel about snoring, Meerkat?

I don't think we've decided which rally to attend; I have a hard time believing they'll stay totally separate for long. Love the double-sided sign idea. Or maybe one that says "THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR BUT FEAR ITSELF", and then when you switch rallies, you tape a piece of paper over "FEAR ITSELF" that says "THE ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE".

Never having been to the Mall during a rally, would it be remotely practical to try to meet up via cell phone or arranged meeting place while the rally is going on? (Maybe I could just stand on a monument and wave my Zombie Apocalypse sign over my head.)

In theory yes... but it's like trying to meet up at a very large convention. There'll be a lot going on and a lot of people, and because the mall is so featureless, it's a bit vague to say "we'll be by the Washington Monument" or "the door to the American History museum." That's why I'm thinking of meeting up after, so that a spot can be picked *off* the mall and away from the madding crowd.

That said... there is a triceratops on the mall. A little triceratops. (Don't ask; I don't know.) If I can pinpoint the bugger via Google maps or something, it wouldn't make a bad meetup point before the rallies/base camp during. But don't hold me to that yet.

If you mean Uncle Beazley, who used to be outside the Natural History museum, he's been moved to the Zoo, opposite the lemurs... which is "off the Mall", but maybe farther off than you wanted.

i so want to go -- to either one. Although restoring sanity is kind of what I actually want for the national psyche.
