I'm a bit amused that the American airing of Sherlock changed "they're giving me an ASBO" to "they're giving me community service." And it looked like Freeman actually said that, so they must have filmed both versions.

ETA: On the other hand, stopped watching after they cut my favorite scene right out. Dagnabbit!

I don't know whether you're inteested, but someone started a Sherlock Holmes audio drama series. It's more inspired by the idea of updating Holmes for the 21st century, rather than strictly based off the BBC series, but thought you might be interested. I haven't had a chance to listen yet as a caveat.

Hmmm. I knew about the Jim French and the Big Finish audios, but not these. Doesn't look to be a download option, so I'll listen after work. Thanks!

This is more of a fan audio drama than Big Finish -- the quality varies. The download option is buried on episode page in tiny print. Most of the type shows wind up on iTunes eventually.

Found and downloaded - I'll give it a listen and see if I want to pursue it.

Really?

DVDs come out at the end of the week and mine are already ordered...

There's are a couple of scenes between John finding the painted wall and Sherlock working out the numbers back in the flat. I'm particularly upset that it was taken out because they had some lovely character-deliniating moments from both John and Sherlock. (If you've seen the icons of Sherlock holding John's head while John squinches his eyes shut, they come from that scene.)

I may not wait for the house to be renovated before I throw a Holmes @ Home party. Between the Guy Ritchie movie, the three Sherlocks, and Without a Clue, there's plenty for an open house to be going on.

The "can you remember the symbols!" "Yeah." "Think! The human brain is only 80% accurate" "I remember them!" one while Sherlock drags John around by the ears. If they cut after that I don't know - Waldo was already asleep and I disgustedly went to bed.

The evil bastards! I love that scene. Now I'm wondering if the US DVDs will be different than the UK ones. Guess I'll order the UK ones and not risk it.

Judging from Doctor Who, the aired versions are cut, but the DVD versions are the same (with "extra scenes!" printed on the box). As I consider my DVDs to be retrolegitimizing what I've already *cough*, then I will probably keep *cough*ing.

We had so many shows recording last night Mom was worried about the DVR refusing to handle them all and us having to eliminate one of them -- turned out we were right at the limit and I wasn't allowed to watch regular TV in the 8-9pm window while we had three or four shows recording. But the upshot is that Sherlock recorded but I didn't take the time to watch it last night. Amused that they got an American edit, yes. Which scene did they cut?

See upthread for my answer to Brewster. Basically, it was the one where Sherlock grabbed John by the head and was turning him in circles, demanding he remember the wall of graffiti... that he'd taken a picture of. I like the scene because it not only shows Sherlock's utter disregard for personal boundaries, but John's quiet capability.

I did greatly love that John had indeed taken such a quick precaution as to get a photo of the symbols, despite the ludicrous improbability of them having disappeared by the time he brought Sherlock back to look at them.

If we list all the things that are particularly improbable about The Blind Banker, we'll both be here for hours. I'm pretty much to the point that I tell people to record it and then fast-forward, watching only the bits where John and Sherlock are both onscreen. (Although I am going back and checking the scenes between Sherlock and Amanda, now that I know that's Benedict's girlfriend Olivia. Who quite charmingly patted his head when he was called up for the mystery awards.)

Agreed that the Holmes milieu (in whatever version) is sort of a bastion of improbability all round. My emphasis not being on the improbability of the wall being painted over, but on the non-obvious precaution of taking the photo that John had taken anyway and that turned out to be exactly what saved the situation.

I don't remember the character of Amanda -- which episode was she in?

That's one of the reasons why I love the scene so much - John is so solidly practical, where Sherlock never even thought of it.

Amanda's in Blind Banker; the blonde banker/secretary/PA type who is helping Sherlock with his investigation.
