For Foodies
I bought the Hamilton Beach Set 'n' Forget and promptly got a ton of grief for getting another crock pot. But it's not the crock pot feature that makes it worth every penny, it's the probe. (THE PROBE! THE PROBE!) For the first time in my life, I have had a perfectly cooked pork loin. Hit me with pork loin recipes, people! (Because the portobello sauce this loin came with? Seven kinds of nasty.)

For Sherlock Fans
These two posts from [livejournal.com profile] shaddicted made me laugh like a loon. Especially the "Bee Bee C" one.

There's a new Sherlock comm: [livejournal.com profile] 221b_baker_str. Consider this more of a notice than a rec (as it only has one post and I already don't keep up with [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc)

Have been watching Toy Story 3 while I go through LJ. It's just something in my eye, really.

2 great minds! I bought the same cooker.

Here's the recipe I'm cooking tomorrow. I adjusted it by adding tons more garlic cloves and I'm marinating the pork loin in the fridge overnight to cook tomorrow.

I finally bought a crock pot, the 1 1/2 quart size, since I'm not good at leftovers.

Oddly it didn't come with a recipe book. Not that I'd have cooked from it, but it would have been useful for proportions. Any tips you can give me?

1.5 quarts is *the* best size for cooking for one!

Tips, hmmm. I tend to use mine for a generic Middle Eastern Lamb stew (check my recipes tag, I posted it at some point) and pot roasts. You get the best pot roast gravy by putting in a little roux and wine and leaving the lid cracked a bit so the alcohol can burn off. (I don't put tomatoes in my pot roast.)

I'm mostly worried about liquid and seasoning proportions. I've got several stew recipes I can just dump in there, but I have vague memories of having issues with not seasoning enough in my last one (before I managed to drop it on the floor and break it).

I've always just winged both liquid and seasoning, sorry. When in doubt, add a packet of dry onion soup mix...

S'okay. I'll play around with it. I think it's more likely to end up too bland than too spicy, and that can be fixed. :)

I saw it in the theater. I now have a new test: if you're watching the scene in the recycling center and you're thought is, "as endings go, this is pretty good" instead of thinking, "this is Pixar, not 'Arrivederci Yamato!" perhaps Zoloft might be for you - ask your doctor..."

It's the recycle scene that made me tear up, not the ending. The ending was too "right" to make me cry.

I don't see why you couldn't - shove in the probe and set the temperature.

Now I need to learn sous vide...
