Whoops

For about three minutes today, I inadvertently became an anti-choice protester, or at least acted like one. But knowing how many bomb threats have been made, when I passed the local clinic well before opening and saw a huge car idling in the parking lot, doesn't it make sense to write down the make, color, and license plate?

It wasn't until later (yes, I was keeping an eye on it as I ran my morning errands) that I saw a guy come out and check the clinic door and another person in the car and realized it was a set of really early clients. Mind you, Eeyore had already set up camp, so if the idea was to beat the protesters in, it didn't work. But by the time I left, it was only a few more minutes until the escort shift arrived.

Meh. In a post-9/11 world, at a place that's a known target for homemeade nutjobs, you were just being alert and concerned. Just think how bad you'd feel if it *had* become a thing and you'd done nothing.

I mean, you didn't actually call the cops or anything, right?

I wouldn't call you anti-anything. I'd call you an alert citizen. Kind of like the guy who kept the Times Square bomb from going off.

No; for all I knew it could have been an escort eating breakfast in the car waiting for another escort to arrive. (We're not supposed to put on our identifiers until there are two of us, to stop he said/she said stuff if one of the antis tries to take us on while we're alone.)

Yeah, I could see, after all the violence that clinics have received, even in the time before 9/11, how you could be a bit cautious and maybe a little paranoid about that sort of thing.

At the very least, if something bad HAD happened, then you would have had information to give to the police.

Especially as this clinic has had someone thrown in jail for threatening to specifically bomb it and he just got out. On my first shift, my ex-military team lead was telling me the tactical places to park, and his reasoning included "emergency blast shelter if necessary."

So, yeah, when it comes to possible bomb attacks, paranoid doesn't begin to cover it.

I just ran across this article today on abusive partners sabotaging women's birth control and I'm still on the fence about including it in today's journal entry but it seems to dovetail with your occasional reproductive rights links roundups.

I saw that. Put it in your entry; I'm about to rant about South Dakota and the Planned Parenthood sting, both of which have the theme "sluts have no rights."
