It is the practice of our vet to send a condolence card after a euthanasia; DB's arrived today. I don't know if they were making an educated guess or if they dug through the records they'd inherited from his second owner's vet (back when he was named "Howard," to which he did not respond. But he'd come running if I called "DB! Deebers!")

They had a birth year for him, which made him 17. That's a good innings for a cat.

Anyway, this is supposed to be a post about yarn. I've dug up the Rowan box and found the colors online:

Page 1 colors:
- hedgerow
- navy
- denim
- toast
- reed
- rush

Page 2 colors:
- powder
- sweet pea
- mango
- oats

I haven't counted balls-per-color yet (remember all of these have already been wound into center-pull balls and corralled in yarn bras. This is ready-to-knit immediately.) If/as people express interest, I'll find out how much of each color I've got. All colors coordinate; that was sort of the point.

Two of the skeins have been knitted into squares already; they could be carefully pulled out and reballed, though. (Another two - one of the oat ones and one of the mango ones - are squares that will become bunnies for [livejournal.com profile] faireraven's Bunny.)

Let me know if you're interested. We're talking a 70% silk, 30% cotton washable yarn (with almost 0 give to it).

I bet the card included the Rainbow Bridge. That thing chokes me up every time I think about it. And expect me to break down at least the first time I go into your house and Deeb's not there.

17 is indeed a good long life for a cat, and a tribute to your good care as well as DB's good fortune.

He and our Christopher were similar-- gentleman cats who were first on the scene but accepted newcomers, with a sigh if not always with open arms. Good-hearted boys, much missed.

It's getting harder for me day by day, not easier. I hadn't realized how skittish the rest of them were until there wasn't one who could be picked up and petted.

Still... I cling to the idea that out of 17 years, I gave him nigh onto 12. He was always afraid he'd be off to owner #4. I could tell.

17 is a good run for feline or canine; Chani was considered seriously geriatric for a Chow at 15+ (but in good shape until that GD-DMD cancer kicked in).

*More Hugs for Nea*

Ooooh, what pretty colors! Consider me DEFINITELY interested in the yarn. What kind of price do you thinks you'll put on it?

I paid just over $7 a skein for it; I could be convinced to go down to 5 just to give it a good home.

Silk-cotton blend sounds just like what I might want for the circular-needle 'Ladies' Sweater Shell' I'm dithering about trying to make. Problem is I'd probably WANT at least one skein of each color, just to have -- !Pretty! -- but that's not very practical.... le sigh!

'Allo, again. I can't really tell from the Rowan Tweed page -- is 'Hedgerow' a dark green or a gray, and is 'Rush' off-white or a really pale green?

Hedgerow is a dark green; Rush (Reed, actually, my bad) is a tan/pale brown.

Darn, I'd hoped it was a green; I'd just about decided on colors.

Methinks my monitor colorization may be off a tad.

How many skeins of denim, toast and mango do you have? Also, any pale green at all? (I see I've been scooped on the 'hedgerow')

Yes, there's a sage green. Let me count 'em up for you.

Thank you....

Sorry, sorry.... just realized the Navy blue would make a better contrast color than denim (since the dark green will be going to Baltimore).... so Navy, Toast, Sage Green and Mango.

Good luck deciding about 'Ernest'!

How much of a hurry are you in, and are you planning on coming to ChicagoTARDIS? Because it's a bit tempting to simply bring the remainder of the box with me to the con and let you take what you want then, saving us both shipping and letting you play with the colors without monitor shift.

...That it would give me some grin and giggle $$ right when I'd want it doesn't hurt either.

But if you're in a hurry to get it on needles, I can start counting.

Yes to ChicagoTARDIS (gotta get registered, thanks for reminding me); No, not really in a hurry to get the knitting started, plus it would give me a bit more time to save up the $$$.... Here's an idea, though: I send you the $$$ for one skein each of the Navy, Denim, Toast, Sage Green & Mango (five skeins @ $7 each plus postage) -- that way I can decide if they're what I want, and if not you're free to de-stash the rest instead of waiting until November. What say you?

It's lovely yarn, but I'm not allowed any more until I finish a few projects with the yarn I have.

Put me down for yarn if you need more people.

They don't seem to miss him, but it's hard to tell.

I'll get to you about the yarn. Looks like a lot will go begging.

Mostly a lurker here, but I'd be interested in the yarn, specifically Hedgerow and Sweet Pea. How many skeins of each are available. Also, wondering what size square you got from each skein? I'd be happy to do $7/skein.

I'm in Baltimore, around the corner from the Book Thing, actually, so perhaps we could work out a hand-off?

Date: 2011-04-02 11:21 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] neadods.livejournal.com
Hello, lurker! And a local - handing off would be handy!

I got about a 9" square with several yards of yarn left over.

There are 5 sweet peas and 5 balled Hedgerows plus one knit into a square but never cut - so the entire skein's worth can be picked out and reballed.

Let me look at my crazy schedule - if you're not in a hurry, I can try to get up there in about 3-4 weeks.

Sounds great - I will take them all! No rush at all. Let me know if a DC hand-off is better for you. It's easy enough for me to come up with reasons to be down there on a weekend.

Oh, and let me know if you want me to PayPal/send you payment ahead of time.

I'm actually in the College Park/Greenbelt area if that's easier for you, but it's no trouble to get up to the Book Thing. It's just that my weekends are about to get crazy for a little while, and that makes it harder to get up to the Thing.

No need to pay in advance! I'll set the sweet pea and the Harvest aside, and probably bring the whole box so you can take a look at the rest of it.
