The part about this episode that I found most entertaining - after the Sontaran nurse, who has just tied with Idris!TARDIS to become my favorite one-off character EVER -- is that over the last 24 hours, my entire flist has said with one voice:

OMGWTFBBQ VICTORIAN INTERSPECIES CRIME-FIGHTING CROSS-DRESSING TIME-TRAVELING LESBIANS! MUST HAVE OWN SERIES RIGHT NOW!

I do believe that Whofandom has just found its own version of Figwit.

I don't think fandom has been this unified in squee on a subject since "Rose" first aired.

I thought it was amusing as well, especially after seeing at least 25 posts about it on my friends list, and a comment about the two somewhere over at TV Tropes.

There was a non-speaking elf extra in a single scene of Lord of the Rings who ended up with a rather strong fandom. The name stands for "Frodo is great - who is THAT?"

ETA, having Wiki'ed myself; turns out he was given more to do in later films because of the fannish reaction. So who knows - maybe we will get our spinoff series. I can see the tagline now: "Like Torchwood - only more effective and with more tongue."

If Moffat had sat down and actively planned something to keep fandom non-wankily occupied till the next half of the series, I don't think he could have done better than Victorian interspecies crime-fighting cross-dressing time-travelling lesbians. There's already a comm, of course (lizardladylove)
