I'm looking for recs for podcasts on the following topics:

- Doctor Who
- Sherlock Holmes (all eras)
- Knitting
- Cooking (including specialty things like tea or bento or specific foods)
- Literary discussion, esp on:
- - Jane Austen
- - Mysteries
- - SF/F
- - Shakespeare

If you've got a favorite that isn't on this list, sing out anyway; you know I've got eclectic tastes. And if you can find me a Jane Austen podcast that does NOT include the phrases "So, like" or "and he was all 'whatever'..." my cringing brain and appalled sensibilities will thank you most graciously.

PS - having just watched The King's Speech, I'm also interested in recs of biographies of the people involved.

On Sherlock Holmes (all eras) the Baker Street Babes is now available from iTunes or its own site, and contains much interesting natter, fangirl squee and fan info.

I've been wondering about that one. Knew it was out there, but hadn't listened yet - good to know it's got a thumbs up.

I suppose I could recommend my podcast Writer and The Critic which discusses SF/F novels.

I'm a crap friend - I've known about it, but I haven't listened to it yet. Shall rectify!

I don't go see any movies in the theater anymore - I wait for them to come out on DVD rental.

However, King's Speech is so good that I'm tempted to get my own copy. It's so brilliantly done.

*nods* I haven't been to see a movie in years. (I mainly resent the price, the fact that I can't pause it if I choose, and the noise from other viewers!)

Yes! I must admit, it's on my DVD wishlist.

Yes, yes, yes, plus it's considered rude to knit - and as far as I'm concerned "watching a screen" time is knitting time!

Is it? Wow! I wouldn't mind someone knitting half as much as I mind people and their freaking mobile phones (despite reminders at the start of every showing to turn the bastard things off!).

It's possible to be absolutely quiet while knitting - but your arms still move a little, and you might drop the yarn.

But it doesn't light up! Not unless you have those special needles that look like little lightsabres.

Very belatedly answering - yeah. Well, sort of - only the very tip lit up. They were a big novelty for a couple of years, but I don't think they were really any good to knit with.
