As unmerciful disaster [has] followed fast and followed faster (bonus points if you know the quote), I've made a few decisions.

1) The tree will come down; I'm not even going to try to save it. I am going to try to sell blasted pieces and firewood. I'm also going to look and see what my insurance company might cover. (They're the same people who cover the car, so they're probably not going to be best pleased with me, but FFS, I didn't hit my own car and there's no way I could have done that tree damage!

2) I've already bought the ChicagoTARDIS plane tickets & membership, and have a roommate; at this point I'd waste more money by not going than attending, so I'll be there. However, the faintest hope of getting to England after Christmas got blown clear across the back yard last night.

3) Remember how I said that if the car was paid off I wouldn't worry much about the damage from being hit? Well, I've sanded down the area where the paint was chipped and covered it with primer and touch-up paint. The slovenliness of the job would embarrass a 3-year-old, but the quarter panel A) won't rust now and B) is not something I have to deal with right now anymore. If someday when I'm not already strapped I finally get the work done, well, insurance cut the check.

Mystery books will start being listed here this weekend. I'm still looking into reasonable prices overseas; I'm willing to ship but the Post Office website is suggesting that the price for anything over a small paperback is insane. Making a run to the real PO tomorrow.

And now:
This is what I saw when I went out to look with my flashlight last night:

Aaaaand this is what I saw when I turned back to look at my car.

Later in the day. That ain't sunlight making that white stripe all the way up the trunk.

And since I'm uploading pictures, you know there were going to be cat shots!

First, Gytha has discovered that the new setup means that she can now get on the TV (she might as well enjoy my having a CRT while I still have it), and from there, hop onto the mantle. Where she will take pride of place when she can, but I think she's cuter being an extra gargoyle.

In the meantime, Mulder works on his ninja disappearing skills:

Oh my! That's some tree damage! You are having a bad year, aren't you? (I won't tell you about mine last year, it invites further disaster, but I know the feeling of being hammered)

And: how adorable are cats? I love 'em.

I love the one with Gytha right behind the gargoyle! Looks like a cat and a kitten at first glimpse, and then you realise...
