neadods: (contemplative)

As unmerciful disaster [has] followed fast and followed faster (bonus points if you know the quote), I've made a few decisions.

1) The tree will come down; I'm not even going to try to save it. I am going to try to sell blasted pieces and firewood. I'm also going to look and see what my insurance company might cover. (They're the same people who cover the car, so they're probably not going to be best pleased with me, but FFS, I didn't hit my own car and there's no way I could have done that tree damage!

2) I've already bought the ChicagoTARDIS plane tickets & membership, and have a roommate; at this point I'd waste more money by not going than attending, so I'll be there. However, the faintest hope of getting to England after Christmas got blown clear across the back yard last night.

3) Remember how I said that if the car was paid off I wouldn't worry much about the damage from being hit? Well, I've sanded down the area where the paint was chipped and covered it with primer and touch-up paint. The slovenliness of the job would embarrass a 3-year-old, but the quarter panel A) won't rust now and B) is not something I have to deal with right now anymore. If someday when I'm not already strapped I finally get the work done, well, insurance cut the check.

Mystery books will start being listed here this weekend. I'm still looking into reasonable prices overseas; I'm willing to ship but the Post Office website is suggesting that the price for anything over a small paperback is insane. Making a run to the real PO tomorrow.

And now:
This is what I saw when I went out to look with my flashlight last night:

Aaaaand this is what I saw when I turned back to look at my car.

Later in the day. That ain't sunlight making that white stripe all the way up the trunk.

And since I'm uploading pictures, you know there were going to be cat shots!

First, Gytha has discovered that the new setup means that she can now get on the TV (she might as well enjoy my having a CRT while I still have it), and from there, hop onto the mantle. Where she will take pride of place when she can, but I think she's cuter being an extra gargoyle.

In the meantime, Mulder works on his ninja disappearing skills:

Oh my! That's some tree damage! You are having a bad year, aren't you? (I won't tell you about mine last year, it invites further disaster, but I know the feeling of being hammered)

And: how adorable are cats? I love 'em.

And when I woke up this morning the cats had barfed on my bed. Seriously, I'm living the lyrics of a blues song.

The cats make up for much, though. All purry & furry.

Sorry about the tree-- I hate seeing any of them come down. Wow, that was close to the house!!!

That was *scary* close to the house. As for it coming down - look at it this way. Nature nurtured it, nature zorched it. Now I'm just making sure the corpse doesn't land on anything!

I love the one with Gytha right behind the gargoyle! Looks like a cat and a kitten at first glimpse, and then you realise...

I was bribing her to sit still long enough for me to take that one. Pop it to the higher resolution and check out those eyes. They're the funkiest color! (The wolf, when the candle behind its head is lit, has glowing green eyes.)

What kind of prices do you suggest? And how dried should the piece be? I mean, I could start slapping hand-sized chunks in envelopes by Monday, but they'd still be a bit... sappy.

in all honesty? as long as you are up front "still very green" or "this is solidly dried" or whatever, its all good. it depends on why people want it!
do they want it as a base for incense? as a alter piece? for coal to forge a Thor's hammer? to carve? to put a candle holder on it???

the thing is, you live not far from one of the more..ACTIVE pagan groups. so we may very well be able to get a "bulk buy" off to them and then let them worry about re sale.

also, seriously? talk to any local pagan stores/new age shops. save on shipping....

otherwise? ebay or etsy (its a supply!) and price it low enough and they will move.

It's pretty... shard-y. Alter piece or coal is probably someone's best bet unless they are particularly fond of splinters. Still, I've pulled it out of the wet grass and it should be dry enough/de-ant-ed enough to start offering.

FSA? I was a member a bazillion years ago, but I think I know anyone in it anymore. I'd be more than happy to have your help trying to bulk sell to them before I get into etsy (although that's a point I'll remember.)
