Another Dad Update

Well, this just got more joyous. My brother called, in the interests of comparing thoughts, fears, and plans.
Turns out that nobody mentioned to me that Dad ALSO has a big cyst on his liver that will be removed at the same time. my brother also came up with the statistic that there's a 6% mortality rate during recuperation from something like this. Now, as I pointed out to him, 6% is low and there's a chance of all sorts of things when you operate but... oy.
And he thinks I should think less about what I want and more about the stress Mother is under, but the more I think about it, the more I like the suggestion that I bring the Christmas on. It gives me something to focus on and takes the pressure completely off Mother.

Hang in there
Yes, an outlet and diversion is often a good thing - both for you and those you can relieve.
Best wishes for your dad's successful operation and swift recovery.

Date: 2004-11-13 06:55 pm (UTC)Your bringing the Christmas on might actually be good for your mother as well as you, so long as she's not being asked to do holiday-related work. There's only so much thinking-of-the-other-person's-stress that's healthy...and if it's a holiday you've all enjoyed, it might be good to have something rather than nothing.
Besides, ummm...what would your father like? If he likes the holiday celebrations, having something is probably a good idea for his recuperative process.
Good vibes for all of you from here.
