Tonight's episode in three letters: W.T.F.?

Who were the guys chasing the girl? What's with the vampire thing? Was the little girl supposed to be sucked to the asteroid, is that why she was scared - but if they sacrificed singers, how could there still be singers? How did the girl get *back* to sing? How did the guy singing in the chamber get there - he didn't get sucked in! How was Clara's leaf and life so much more than a man who's lived ELEVEN FREAKIN' LIVES? I don't see how his future regenerations were more "finite" than her timeline.

What. The. Fuck? Even accounting for some scrambling due to the cuts made to the American broadcast, that just made no sense.

Well, I got that the little girl got back via the moped with Clara.

The rest of it, I'm kinda with you on.

Yeah. It wasn't even pretending to make sense there...

Let's see...the guys chasing the girl were only chasing her because she was hiding; they were a misdirect, supposed to look scary but not actually a threat once she decided to sing the song. (They were actually just *looking* for her because they needed her to get "on stage.") I don't think she knew what she was afraid of, just "getting it wrong" because she knew it was important. The guy on the asteroid seemed to have some sort of wrist teleport. They were only about to sacrifice the little girl - she was the Queen of Years and knew *all* the songs - not just any singers. The little girl got back to the planet with Clara on the moped, after the Doctor told her to run. The vampire was the "god's alarm clock," whatever that means; they were keeping it asleep so it wouldn't wake up the "god" in turn. The Doctor gave the god everything he'd seen, not his future - a tactical error like his earlier ones. Clara, by contrast, gave the god all of her mother's unlived days, which could have gone an infinite number of ways.

Those are my takes on it, anyway.

Cosigned. That's the way I understood it too.

Note that in normal years, the Queen of Years simply sings a song, the other priest sings in harmony, nothing happens, everybody goes home unhappy. It's just that this year's QoY predicted, correctly, that something would go wrong. It did, vampire vamps, God-blob wakes up, enter Doctor.

And I cried at Clara's giving away her mother's future. Perfect.

Yeah. There are mutterings from the other end of the couch that indicate that the person who grew up watching Doctor Who on the BBC is about to opt out if the wtf-ery doesn't seriously mend soon. I'm weirdly a little more loyal to it, but it's getting to be touch and go.

I enjoyed the Christmas special and Bells of St. John, so I'm going to forgive them the occasional horrible episode.

Yeh, not their shining hour.

I liked the fact the SFX depart pulled out the stops with the aliens but the rest of the plot was just meh.
