Once again, I have waited until the heat of summer to think "I should get some summer dresses." Once again, they're all sold out because silly me, why should anyone want to sell me a dress WHEN IT'S BEEN 96 FOR THREE WEEKS? I should have snapped up the limited stock back in, I dunno, January because of course, when it's freezing is just when I want to traipse around in a sundress. *eyeroll* I've put notes in my calendar to check for madras dresses... for Christmas.

If they sell madras jumpers, I will love you forever. *glares at Vermont Country Store*

More the Vermont Country Store "refugee from the Duggar family" jumper style. Something I can wear (scandalously!) without a shirt beneath on the hottest days.

Oh, I miss that kind of jumper. I miss jumpers in all forms; they haven't been fashionable for years, except among the Duggars.

Vermont Country Store, bless their retrograde hearts, sells 'em by the boatload... at the BEGINNING of the season, at least.

You could always try googling "buy modest clothing," which I did, but it gave me hives.

I saw it posited in some other forum that ankle-length denim skirts are a trustworthy sign of membership in woman-oppressive fundamentalism. This makes me sad, because I love ankle-length denim skirts, if they're full enough.

Certainly the shapeless denim jumper is; I don't know if the skirt alone is (says the person who has quite a few ankle-length skirts, some denim). I could imagine that if you pair it with a plunging V-neck or spaghetti straps or a crop top it would ruin that fundie image pretty quickly!

That said... I remember googling modest clothes before out of curiosity and finding much being made of sewing the "right" skirt - which was a completely bog-standard 6-gore A-line. They're treating it like a mystery pattern known only to the Right Kind of Woman, yet it's available at any sewing store in a dozen variations.

YEEK the prices! If they think I'm paying $100 for a pretty dress in my size, they're dreaming. And that wasn't by any means the most expensive one.

The trick is to go back to a page regularly; they go on sale pretty fast.

Feeling your pain... Daughter is going out of town for a few days to visit a friend, and suddenly wants to go shopping for sundresses and flats....

Might almost be quicker (cheaper?) to MAKE one, in our case....

I'm seriously considering sewing my own. Mind you, it looks like most of the summer fabrics are *also* gone...

They don't have a Marshall's or a Ross near you? In season is when there are SALES!

I went to Marshall's yesterday. Lots of polyester dresses. Polyester! I think that anyone who wraps themself in a plastic bag on a code red day deserves the heat stroke coming to them.

Goodwill and thrift shops will always have seasonally-appropriate clothing for sale during the season.

I like to shop at One Stop Plus.

And they have stuff.

And there's pretty much always coupon codes available.

Ooh! I just went nuts at Woman Within this morning; only difference between their loungers and what I want is the name.
