Cory Monteith is dead. That is a tragedy, plain and simple; 31 is far too young to die.
But the actor is not the role, and the whole "ZOMG how can Glee go on without him?" has me smacking my head. Ever since the character graduated, Finn has been a problem to wedge back into a high school he should be through with and a crappy relationship that had included him shipping his girlfriend out of town when she thought they'd get married.
The love triangle set up with Rachel was awkward; the idea that a guy who barely scraped through school would be brought back to essentially teach Glee Club was insane. The sub plot about Finn giving Emma an unwanted pity kiss was creepily misogynistic -- less because young (dumb) Finn did something that he shouldn't have (he immediately realized the creep factor and apologized) or even Emma (who did an excellent job of *being a teacher* and a woman firmly drawing boundaries instead of falling back into the OCD tics and tropes they've overloaded her with). No, it was Mr. Schue's "YOU TOUCH MAH WOMMAN! SCHUE SMASH!" reaction that made me want to hit him with a brick... and that resulted in Finn being tossed out of a show that he'd already left once.
Go on without him? How were they going to bring him back this time?
Cory shouldn't have left this life, but Finn should have gone out of Glee and stayed out ages ago.

And besides, if we're going to go with 'believable' we might as not watch the show ever. at all. ;)
