THE QUESTION:
What's good to see/do/shop or eat at in Tribeca?

THE REASON:
I'm going to be in Manhattan most of Thursday October 10 and part of Friday October 11 for the Night Vale Live show. (*Which* show is still up for grabs: I have a ticket for the late show and have paid another fan for a ticket for the early show but that one isn't in my hands yet. And until it is, I'm not releasing my late show ticket.)

Thing is, the show's in Tribeca and I think I've been to Tribeca only once, and that years ago.

A place to stay isn't a problem; I can pick up a hotel room for the night at the Hilton close by and will do so, on the off chance that I'll be rolling back from the late show. But if I'm going to take time off, I might as well take the whole of Thursday off and get up in time to enjoy the area, right?

If that's where I think it is -- the Mysterious Bookshop is down in that part of New York. The subway was literally around the corner.

Mysterious does say it's in Tribeca now-- I haven't been there since their move from the midtown place with the spiral staircase and Penzler's back room full of rarities that he'd let select Sherlockians glimpse during the SH Weekend in January. I'm sure he still has loads of Sherlockian books and items.

The way I remember it the shop had a entire back wall devoted to Sherlockiana. The shelves are pretty high too. I went to the Hard Case Crime signing two years ago when they relaunched.

...but the show is in Brooklyn?

Well, isn't THAT special? Go to the Night Vale website and the pin in the map is in Brooklyn. Copy the address from that very website, put it in Google Maps and you get Tribeca.

Well, plenty of time for me to cancel the expensive tribeca hotel and find something reasonable near the Roulette. I hope it's a safe neighborhood.

Silly Google Maps.

I'm afraid I haven't a clue about the neighborhood itself.

That *is* weird. I tried it myself and I see what you mean. Interestingly if you search the Roulette, you get the right location. "And now the weather..."

I think I'm going to just call the theater itself for hotel and transport recommendations.

By the way - thank you for the warning before I got there and it was too late to change plans!

Not a problem! I've been working out how I am going to skedaddle from the Javits to the show and arrive in a semi-timely fashion. I have booth duty at NYCC that Thursday.

I'm still figuring out where I'm going to stay at this point.

I was about to say, if you can afford to splurge on a meal while you're in town, Locanda Verde is amazing and in Tribeca. However, looking at the comments, it sounds like you may be relocating your trip.

On the Brooklyn side, though it doesn't serve food and is not actually in downtown, there *is* the Way Station, with its famous TARDIS-shaped restroom.
