(And the professional authors on my f-list mutter into their coffee, "What does she know about publishing stuff?")

I don't always like Neil Gaiman's writings, but I always find him entertaining, which is why I'm on [livejournal.com profile] officialgaiman. Which today published an officially awesome letter from Teresa Nielsen Hayden (Tor) which Neil calls "the kind of comprehensive post that aspiring authors should read with care. Study, even. Mark it and copy it and use it as a resource."

Too cool not to note. Plus I wanted a link in my LJ for future reference.

lizbetann: (writing is easy)

My problem is, in a sense, I know who I would like to contact to be my agent when I finally have some things in publishing form. Now I'm worried that she's not going to want to represent me until I'm published, which won't happen until I'm represented, which won't happen until I'm published, etc, etc, ad nauseum.

And yeah, about 15 years ago was taken in by a shyster who swore that he could get my novel published (please note that 15 years ago I was 16). Then again, while I (rather, my parents) paid for the experience, I did have a reader go through my novel with a sharp pointy red pen and it did more than anything else for my ability to write, so I count it as a positive.
