Mansfield Park question: "Only £10"

I'm still staggering through Mansfield Park and I've rolled with most of what I don't understand, but now I've hit a bit where I think I'm missing nuance.
Lady Bertram and Aunt Norris are talking about their parting monetary gifts to William. Lady Bertram is mildly lamenting that she gave him "only £10."
I get that this is worth a couple months salary. I get that this is how wealthy she is to think of that as mere pocket change. And of course Aunt Norris probably gave him sixpence and considered it vast generosity.
But I think that there are nuances I am missing. What are they?
