So, I've been talking about all the 5Ks I want to run later in the year, but none were open for signup yet. Until Run Like a Diva right in my (relatively speaking) back yard in September. http://www.runlikeadiva.com/Events/Divas__Half_Marathon___5K_-_DC_s_Wine_Country.htm

Only... I was to be part of a trip to England that left that very race night. I don't want to miss any time in England.

On the other hand,I don't want to miss this race either, though. I can sign up for this 5K right away and not only does it punch my "it's so silly It Must Be Done!" button, it would give me a concrete race to start training for. And it's not like it's England Or Nothing; the rest of my party will be in London, it's not like it would be hard for me to catch up the next day.

Having done long plane trips in reasonably good condition and done them when I was not, I definitely wouldn't plan a long run the day before the trip. Granted going to England isn't as long as the trips to New Zealand, but that's still a long time for overused muscles to stiffen up. You'll be sore the next several days after the run and may not be up to much in England.

It's not the marathon I'm considering - that would kill me - but the 5K. A major goal of this year is to be able to walk that and shake it off.
