I'm trying to tone down the politics on this blog, but sometimes, I just have to get a comment or two off my chest.

Right now, I've got to at least note at least a few of the burning tone-deaf hypocrisies in Ted Cruz running for President. Like how one can "Take back the Constitution" by announcing a Presidential campaign at a religious college in defiance of the First Amendment. Like how shutting the government down apparently makes you qualified to lead it. Like going on record saying only "corageous conservatives" "love liberty" and assuming that the non-conservatives won't take massive offense come time to pull the voting lever. We remember these things come the general election, Teddy darlin'.

In a way, I do look forward to this campaign, for two reasons. First, the faster he crashes and burns out of politics, the healthier the country will be. Even Gingrich knew better than to try to halt the government a second time, but Cruz seems ever eager to throw more people out of work to prove how much he appreciates the common workers.

But more than that, second, I intend to make a LOT of popcorn and find out how it is that a man born in Canada totally counts as a natural-born citizen because his mother's American, while another man born on American soil to an American mother remains a commie fascist muslim ringer. I do SO hope that the Daily Show gets a few shots in about that before Jon Stewart leaves.

I loathe Cruz and his politics, but past precedent suggests there's no problem with him being eligible to run despite having been born in Canada. Still, I agree: the left should at least try to get a few shots in about this, because it's the least these asshats deserve after eight years of "he's a Kenyan!"

In a way, it would be better for the democrats if Ted Cruz did get nominated. I don't think he has a chance against Clinton if she gets the nomination.

Here's some blasphemy: I don't want Clinton to run. She comes with too much baggage, some of which she earned when she was first lady, and the hate on for Obama will be nothing compared to the hate on for her. Frankly, I don't know why she wants back in the White House; with careful work she'd have more power for longer in Congress.

I'm just speechless about most of Cruz's platform, but the part about getting rid of the IRS amuses the hell out of me. I wonder how he proposes to pay the bills.

He what now? Oh, dear. That's going to be like Cain's 9-9-9; plays well in Peoria, but sooner or later the grownups have to talk.

I just heard on the news that there were 10,000 students at the Cruz rally--and that it was a required class. They had to attend.

I wasn't aware that Liberty University actually HAD that many students, to tell the truth.

Yeah, nothing says grassroots support like a mandatory political rally.

-- We have a new bumper sticker: “(Ted’s face) Where’s His Mental Health Certificate?”

And a Twitter from Cheri DelBrocco:
"The stars at night are shining bright Deep in the heart of Batshit."

I can't stand that oily git. I can't even see him without thinking of Joe McCarthy. He's more insincere than a used car salesman crossed with a televangelist, but some people listen to him and take him seriously.

And if you want serious mental health issues, check out his father....

That he didn't lock up the websites only proves how unready he is for prime time.

He's 45 years old. I don't think he really understands all that Internet stuff.

No, seriously. The entire Republican Party still seems to be stuck in the late 1980s as far as that kind of thing goes.

The overwhelming reaction on Canadian news websites to today's news, as with the news last year of Cruz renouncing his Canadian citizenship, was: America, you can keep him. Please.

With a side-helping of: would you please also take Stephen Harper and Justin Bieber?

if you want a more regular dose of similar political opinions, you might try

http://juanitajean.com/

She's a deep blue lady in deep red Texas, and often has to slap some idiot down in print... though she says she posts things just to read the comments. Her latest post is about Cruz and gave me most of what I noted above.

I fucking hate that piece of mutinous shit Cruz. I just want to punch him in the face every time I see his ugly little smug smirk. He's a bully, he knows it and he's disgustingly proud of it. He reminds me of all the smarmy little shitheels I had to deal with in high school who always got away with murder because they were shielded by their parents or the administration.

Anyone who purposely throws a temper tantrum that costs his own country 24 BILLION FUCKING DOLLARS just to spite the President should automatically be disqualified from ever holding any office. Ever.

And we laugh - as we should - but at the same time we should be scared, because this piece of crap is coming right out and saying he wants to turn this country into a goddamn theocracy - he announced his candidacy in one of the worst evangelical places, after all - and you can be assured that this theocracy would have none of Christ's compassion and all of Old Testament God's vengeful, vicious fury. The Bible-bangers may not quite have enough muscle to rule yet, but they're working on it, and given that the Rethugs have rigged and gerrymandered the shit out of previous elections, well...it's not faith-inspiring, to say the least (pun intended).

Oh, and the reason why a Canadian born on Canadian ground to an American mommy is ok while an American born on American soil to an American mother is a commie pinko fascist Moozlim? One is black, and we all know who it is.

Not only that, but spends all that money for nothing *in the name of fiscal responsibility!*

That's what always makes me want to spit/laugh. The GOP/Baggers love to bleat about FISCAL RESPONSIBILITYYYYYYYYYY!! but when it comes down to walking the walk, they're about as responsible as a Kardashian with an unlimited credit card.

They're also all about LOCAL CONTROLLLLLL and how states/counties/cities can govern themselves SO much better than the federal government... until that local government does something the GOP doesn't like, and then it gets squashed. They dick around with DC council laws and voter-approved moves all the time, and the same thing elsewhere if anybody passes something like a (gasp) anti-gay-discrimination law, or gun control, or aid for poor women who want an abortion.
