The downside of 221B Con this year is that many of my friends who have come previously aren't here. The upside is that this is forcing me to get out of my shell and meet all kinds of wonderful fans.

Imma have to seriously start a tumblr, though. You don't quite exist without a tumblr account, and when LJ is mentioned, it's discussed like it was found in a Leceister parking lot.

And the main report may have to come when I get a real keyboard because autocorrect haaaaaates me tonight.

But you can't really have a *conversation* on tumblr. (Hate it. Drives me crazy. I want GEnie back, dammit!)

You can have a conversation on Tumblr, it just has the tendency to branch off like a crabapple tree...

(Yes, Badger and I are both already there. C'mon in....)

I've taken the plunge. "madenthusiams" -it's been a good name for here

Good luck with Tumblr. I actually do have a Tumblr account. It was brain-meltingly counter-intuitive to set up (I had to ask my online friends for help at every stage of the process), and I have yet to figure out how to actually DO anything with it. AFAICT, it's just a way of racking up points for how many times something you post (which you re-posted from somewhere else) gets re-posted. And yes, virtually nothing in the way of genuine conversation, which for me is the point of "social media".

dang, when did you get in? I was in London on Thursday, it would've been nice to at least wave ...!

Sounds like you're having a good time :-)

Sad but true. The funny thing is I'm running into odd pockets of (largely millennial) Tumblr users who are discovering (or in a few cases rediscovering) the strengths of LJ.

I don't know that we'll ever see an in-force migration back over here, but it do hold hope for a modest resurgence as a place for in-depth discussion.

I'm still encouraging people to come over to DreamWidth. All the features you like about LJ, but it's never been sold for monetization, and you'll never be hassled about posting an icon of a nursing mother. Oh, and one feature that LJ doesn't have but I really, really like -- "access" and "reading" are separated, not conjoined into "friends". You can follow what someone posts there (have it appear on your reading page) without having to give them access to your friendslocked posts.

I appreciate the benefits of DW, and that they're the reason a number of my friends started using it primarily long before the migration to various other platforms. On balance, I still prefer to keep the one account here, but if/when I become more active in fandom again, I'll probably do yet another pro/con process. Thank you for your thoughts.
