Next month I have to choose between being a Holmesian and a Whovian, and rather resent that fact.

On one hand: a Red Circle meeting that would let me get back into good graces after blowing off the last one, and a super-rare Diogenes Club meeting. There have only been two meetings of that one in as many years - and I missed the first one because I was committed to an open hearth demonstration for the Kitchen Guild. I promised myself the next Diogenes club meeting!

On the other hand - Regeneration Who. I shied away from that last year, but folks I know went and had a good time. Guests include Nick Briggs (who I always enjoy slightly annoying hanging out with), Terry Molloy (who I meant to fanstalk at ChicagoTARDIS when he was there, then ended up fanstalking Tony Lee instead because he'd announced it was his last ChiTARDIS) and the panels include the Peter Davison/Colin Baker show, which should never be missed. In fact, last time I saw the two of them together I promised myself I wouldn't miss that show.

The decision is made - for a variety of reasons I got a Regenerations membership tonight - but I feel no matter which way I go, I'm letting people down. Including me.

Also... that "for a variety of reasons." It's fandom. I shouldn't have to do pro/con lists and come up with rationalizations. This is supposed to be fun.

I'm sure either option would be fun. It's just the problem everyone has with life: trying to prognosticate the future to figure out which option will be MORE fun. No matter what you decide on, you wonder, "are they having more fun at the other thing?"

For what it's worth, I know the people who work on Regeneration Who and they're really dedicated to making a good event for everyone and making things right for people if there's a problem. I think you'll have a good time! But yeah, it's hard to choose between attractive options.

That's good to hear. It's the panels that sold me; I've come a long way from the kid who went to conventions for years and never did panels unless I was on them!

Decisions, decisions.... I know how you feel. I've been dithering about this year's MediaWest*Con and thinking about giving Chicago TARDIS Con another go ... I have to decide SOON about MWC because I have to put in for vacation time....

Aw, man, no longer going to MediaWest was like ripping an arm off, I'd been going for so long.

And now that I'm 6 years away, I'm trying to think of reasons to haul ass across that many states again. Maybe when I comb through the fanzines - I should donate the ones I don't want to the reading library, in honor of all the years I made a pilgrimmage to the con.

It should be fun, yeah, but... usually fandoms don't collide like that, either, or put you in a position to have to choose between one or the other. And both events do sound like they'd be tons of fun and you'd have a wonderful time... and I suspect if you went to one, you'd also spend some time wondering if you'd have more fun at the other. Which is also unfair and annoying.
