Smap is at Lunacon this weekend. So her dog, Athena, is with me. (I told Smap I'm ginger about my car, after it having needed repairs twice last week. I told her Thena would be happier with people around instead of seeing them twice a day. Both are true... and sound a hell of a lot better than "I'm too damn lazy to haul my fanny up to your place twice a day.")

Anyway, so now I have a loaner dog for the weekend. Athena was delivered last night.

The cats are not amused.

'Thena would never hurt them - if I thought that, I would be hauling fanny to Smap's - but try telling a cat that. Poor DB is most offended that there is a hairball between him and his little rituals; I think last night was the first time *ever* he hasn't slept on the bed with me. Including the other times I had the dog. He came in this morning, though, and we had some purring and petting while the misnamed Athena sniffed around and completely managed to not notice the arrival of a huge orange cat. Alas, when she did finally twig, her attempts to make friends spooked DB away again.

DB, dude, you're the one with the claws!

What happened to Thena's other half? Or were two dogs way too much fluff for the cats to contemplate?

Unfortunately, Xander had to be put down due to complications from epilepsy.

And... I did have both dogs at my place once, and it was kinda hard to deal. The cats preferred it because the dogs were penned up in specific areas (due to Xander's problem) but it was hard on the dogs. Xander couldn't comprehend where he was or why. Thena, I think, grasps the concept of "vacation."

Ah, I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard to contemplate one without the other. And yeah, I could see how keeping the dogs penned could be frustrating, especially for ones that size.

*imagines*

Yes, they weren't keen on the kids either, as I recall... Poor aggrieved little creatures. ;)

Micky, like Mikey in the old commercial, doesn't like anything. But I'm still shocked to the core that DB hissed at your daughter. She didn't do a thing to him, and he's usually okay with kids.

Now, were the aggrieved little critters, the cats or the kids?

:)

I'm not sure Athena has very good eye-sight She always leads with her nose. And she's used to cats -- from your first to the current batch.

Xander was so far gone he was running into walls. When he lost track of who "Mom" was, he needed to be put out of his and her misery.

Such a beautiful dog.

Yeah, poor Xander was just a little too scrambled. He really did not understand where he was when I had him last.
