Reviewing the Evidence

Two more reviews of mine are up at Reviewing the Evidence (link at right on my LJ): Bride and Groom and Definition Murder. One of these has reached immortality as one of my examples of eyeball-sporking badness, so go see what I'll be twitching about for the next year.
Also recommended is Andi Shechter's review for See Isabelle Run. She's got a great authorial voice and she's so right about the reaction to TV dramas.

Date: 2005-03-28 06:59 pm (UTC)of "This book is SO BAD that I don't even want to say how bad it is, so I'll just tell you what happens in such a way that you can figure it out for yourself."
More like "This book is SO BAD that I don't need to say how bad it is, I'll just tell you the parts that made my brain explode and watch yours blow up too."
The horny police were pretty awful, but the real grey-matter detonator was that professor. Riiiight. No college in the world is going to, oh, notice that slight little bit of enrollment discrimination. And no other students would comment about the rituals and the clothing. And of course, all the students in the class will comply, no problem, and not one of them will ever, oh, SUE YOU AND THE COLLEGE LATER.
Of all of it, though, it was the tattoos that really got me. Dunno about you, but there were far more kids in my school who were willing to screw around than were willing to have a permanent, painful, parents-might-ask-questions mark put on their bodies to *prove* they screwed around!
And this little fantasy goes on not for one semester. Not for two semesters. But for something like 2 or 3 years.
In the end, both books treat more than one woman like trash, which is a pretty stupid move for a genre with a readership that is something like 95% female.
