My review for Shadows at the Fair is up at Reviewing the Evidence.

I was set to ask another random "what would you want in a gift basket" question, but I'll just directly ask the question behind the question instead.

Part of the urge to organize is combining with the urge to learn a craft, with the practical upshot being a plan to start a notebook or two of tried-and-true directions for making... what? Candy was an easy thing; even if I bomb out or get bored, it's not going to be that hard to find takers for any candy I make, even if it's not perfect, and it's not going to take a lot of stuff I don't already own (except, maybe, a candy thermometer. Which I can borrow from a friend, if necessary. Heck, he'd probably insist on a cooking party.)

The other simple-to-learn kinda gift craft I was thinking was bath stuff - bath salts, soaps, etc. The question is - would anybody really care? If someone gave you a gift basket with maybe a soap or two, a book, some crackers and cheese and called it "a quiet night at home" would you want it?

I'm probably going to dabble in doing a little melt-and-pour soap and a body wash or two just so I can check it off on my mental "know how to do that" list. (Hey, even if nobody else is interested in getting it as gifts, I'm eventually gonna use the stuff myself.) But I'm trying to prevent myself from launching into all kinds of elaborate preparations that will ultimately go nowhere and get tossed out in the next decluttering. Projects done for grins and giggles and projects done For Christmas Giving are different levels of work, y'know?
