I was set to ask another random "what would you want in a gift basket" question, but I'll just directly ask the question behind the question instead.

Part of the urge to organize is combining with the urge to learn a craft, with the practical upshot being a plan to start a notebook or two of tried-and-true directions for making... what? Candy was an easy thing; even if I bomb out or get bored, it's not going to be that hard to find takers for any candy I make, even if it's not perfect, and it's not going to take a lot of stuff I don't already own (except, maybe, a candy thermometer. Which I can borrow from a friend, if necessary. Heck, he'd probably insist on a cooking party.)

The other simple-to-learn kinda gift craft I was thinking was bath stuff - bath salts, soaps, etc. The question is - would anybody really care? If someone gave you a gift basket with maybe a soap or two, a book, some crackers and cheese and called it "a quiet night at home" would you want it?

I'm probably going to dabble in doing a little melt-and-pour soap and a body wash or two just so I can check it off on my mental "know how to do that" list. (Hey, even if nobody else is interested in getting it as gifts, I'm eventually gonna use the stuff myself.) But I'm trying to prevent myself from launching into all kinds of elaborate preparations that will ultimately go nowhere and get tossed out in the next decluttering. Projects done for grins and giggles and projects done For Christmas Giving are different levels of work, y'know?

Have you tried doing bath salts?

The question is, would anyone want them? Bath salts I don't use, so I'd want there to be somewhere for them to go if I make 'em.

Well, since they're a combination of Epsom salts (magnesium), baking soda and sea salt, they're pretty good for sore muscles. I do them myself; a cousin also does them and tosses the combination with lavender or rose oil and a little food color. I mention it because they're easy and pretty and do good things for my legs when they hurt.

Oooh, learn how to make sugar scrub. It's easy. Equal parts sugar and vegetable glycerin, and essential oils 'til you have the amount of scent you like.

Speaking personally, yes.

*perks up* Shower stuff is always a gimmie! around the suri so I'd say hell yes. One of the ebst gifts I ever got was when I was really sick, and a friend gave me one of those "accross the tub" holders with bath oils and soaps and a candle, all in my favorite scent. Something like that's a gift that says "take time for yourself, you're worth it."
