According to a flyer that I got from the Teaching Company, the sale on courses will end this Thursday, 6/23. Just FYI, y'all, although the catalog does say that there will be other sales. ("At least once a year for all custmoers, we reduce by up to 70% the price of each of our more than 200 courses.")

Also, the following classes are listed as "clearance" and in most cases are only available on audiotape:

Literary Modernism
Science Fiction
The Self Under Siege: Philosophy in the 20th Century
Explaining Social Deviance
From Plato to Postermodernism: Understanding the Essence of Literature

Also, for once I took a look at the ads in the NY Times Book Review and discovered that they were offering the sale price on the class they advertised there. I'm going to keep an eye on that in the future to see if they always offer a discount for the class they advertise that week.

I may skip Shakespeare Histories, Comedies, Tragedies (I don't happen to like Hamlet or Lear, thankyouverymuch!), in favor of some of the histories. Europe and the Wars of Religion is a given; not sure if I'm also going to get The American Civil War or King Arthur and Chivalry. Definately going to pop for the Science Fiction class and listen to it in the car on the way to/from work.

Am trying to make up my mind regarding "Understanding Literature and Life: Drama, Poetry, and Narrative. Ambitious lit class of 65 lectures, running from Oedipus to The Color Purple. I're read between 1/3 to 1/2 of the books mentioned in the lecture titles. Hmmm.

Notes on actually "taking" the class:

My parents borrowed The Bible and World Literature this weekend; they said later that the information was interesting but they felt that the professor talked too fast.

I have finished Part 1 of The History of the English Language and printed off the supplementary material I pulled off the web. My goal will be to finish Part 2 - six hours of lectures - this week.

I need a "practically peeing with laughter" icon, I really do - especially now that [livejournal.com profile] menikoff is recommending hilarious new Dr. Who fic like this.
