Cutting Back

It takes me up to an hour to read my friends list from overnight - longer if I've been offline for a full day. This was fine when I was between deadlines, but not so fine when I'll be working hard and have limited time to surf for the sake of surfing.

So nothing personal, but I'm pruning the f-list. It doesn't mean I'm mad at anyone or have a secret agenda, it just means that I'm trying to get things down to a manageable level of readability until I know where I stand in the new position. After a couple of weeks I'll know if I can add names back or have to cut back further.

Updates on assorted things

So I went to the Women In Leadership Development happy hour last night, and while I was there, I was surruptitiously checking out other women's choices. Makeup or not? How heavy? Nail length? Was quite reassured to see that two of the most polished women had nails as short as I generally keep mine.

Came home to a registered mail notice for my legal name. Only thing I can think of that would be using that name on a letter would be the title to the car. So, yay. Picking it up after work. The boo part would be that I can't do anything about it until Monday, as the DMV only does registration stuff M-F during working hours. Have already notified new boss, who says "fine."

Got my atomic watch. What looked relatively feminine online turns out to be gigantic in person (I own smaller pendants) and worse, made out of metal-colored plastic instead of metal. Feh. Thing is, going online doesn't show me a lot of other options; there's a watch that looks more metal-y, but for all I know it's twice as huge. After a fair amount of thought, I've decided to adjust the band severely downwards and wear it anyway; I can take it off if/when I need to look femme and maybe by the time this one wears out/is beaten to death (I'm hard on my watches), there will actually be atomic watches for women. 'Cause right now, there aren't. Feh. Note to manufacturerers - women like the tech toys too, and our money's just as green.
