F-list and charity group
Oct. 12th, 2005 08:25 amWow, I've got 100 people who read me now! *waves* Hello all, I'm glad to have you with me and I hope you enjoy the reading. Um, I'm still going to write boring stuff about my life every now and then, just so you're warned.
I'm also going to keep going off on my usual ideas, the biggest of which is the still-unnamed silent auction for charity group. Not getting a lot of comments on it, but I'm going to forge ahead anyway, because I think it's a great idea. Because I have had some online and offline encouragement. Because I was up at 4am mentally writing the FAQ, this is so important to me.
My pledge: within 48 hours (hopefully sooner), as soon as I get a good name for the group and type the FAQ, I will get the community online, and then start begging for participants and advertising. I have already picked out 7 books to inaugurate the first auctions - two first edition hardbacks, one Advanced Reader's Copy, two theme-related paperbacks and two paperbacks comprising the foundation of a new cozy series. These will be auctioned for aid to the earthquake survivors.
For people who have brimming f-lists and are thinking "great idea, can't bear another entry!" remember this - you can join a community but not friend it. That gives you permission to post items, but you don't have to keep up with the whole thing.
ETA: I'm flirting with "gsgc" for Good Stuff, Good Causes. (Or "4goodcause" which would bring it up higher in the search returns.) There's also "smallest_act" for Atterbury's quote "The smallest act of charity shall stand us in great stead." Or "in_all_things" for Baxter's "In all things, charity."
Brecht also has a catchy phrase in "Everyone needs help from everyone" but I have no idea how to turn that into a name at all.
