Two things:

One: Cheyenne Wright is on one of the discussion lists I'm on, and today mentioned that she'd done this Alton Brown cartoon. Apparently, as these things go online, someone passed the link on to a friend, who laughed and passed it to a friend, who laughed and passed it to a friend, who laughed and... until one of those friends was named Alton Brown.

Who must have laughed because Cheyenne says AB asked for art for t-shirts for him (Not ZombieAlton!) and they'll debut next week. Passing the cartoon on now because I know enough food and science geeks that I defacto must know a lot of AB fans, and will pass on shirt info when it's available.

Two: Daily Kos is selling the perfect holiday gift for your pinko bleeding-heart liberal friends, and I'm damning the fact that my Visa is at the limit, 'cause I want one too. Crashing the Gate: Netroots, Grassroots, and People-Powered Politics, the Progressive Partner Special Edition. (Although it looks like it won't actually be mailed until Feb, so I have time to get that Visa down before orders are cut off, I think.)

The semi-silly: there's a meme running around, last seen with [livejournal.com profile] kradical to quote Schoolhouse Rock. Considering the date, I'm going to quote Schoolhouse Rock quoting something else.

We the people
In order to form a more perfect union,
Establish justice, insure domestic tranquility,
Provide for the common defense,
Promote the general welfare and
Secure the blessings of liberty
To ourselves and our posterity
Do ordain and establish this Constitution
for the United States of America.

I'm never entirely sure how to handle Dec 7. Although both my parents remember it, the Day of Infamy is slowly fading from living memory, and has been upstaged by a bloodier, more recent infamy.

So I'll just say this: She still bleeds. 64 years later, she still bleeds oil. I stood and watched the tiny slicks washing below my feet. But what really raised the goosebumps, more than those little rainbows, more than watching fish swim above deck, was reading the dates on the shrine. For you see, they don't end in 1941. Those who were on the Arizona and survived have the right to rejoin their comrades for eternity.

I sometimes wonder if she will bleed until her crew is at last reassembled.
