neadods: (knitting)
I have a dozen sets of wooden knitting needles plus my Aunt's collection of aluminum ones, so how is it that I didn't have a pair of size eights... and I needed them?

Off I go to Joanne's. I would have preferred to get 12" Lantern Moons (favorite needle, favorite length), but I can only afford 9" Clovers right now, so Clovers I would get. I picked up the first set they had, but right under it was a package that had been opened and resealed with paper, hand-labelled "SIZE 8." Thing is, they looked the right width, but they seemed longer. I held them up, felt along them, and couldn't figure out the ridges - they weren't Clovers, not with that top. I finally peeked under the paper... to see a pair of 10" Brittneys.

How the heck they got there I have no clue, as Joanne's doesn't even SELL Brittneys! But there they were, so there I went, right up to the counter and half wondering if I should try to get an extra discount because the package had been opened. My nerve failed and I didn't want to bring extra attention to them, so I just smiled sweetly as the sales lady swiped the Clover package and charged me the Clover price.

But I get to knit with Brittneys.

(For the non-knitters who have read this far: This story will make more sense if you know that Lantern Moon needles average around $20 a set, Clovers at $4.50, and Brittneys at $7.50-8ish.)
