Home Improvement
Feb. 2nd, 2008 02:51 pmThere are two home improvement/building/remodeling shows in the area: I went to one today and will go to the other tomorrow with a friend.
My, my, my. Well, my plans to fix up the house just got a shot in the arm!
Although there were lovely, stunning closet organizer places, I've already been discussing with my dad about redoing the closet in a grow-your-own kind of improvement, he having the carpentry skills to help me do what I want for about $100, instead of the $400-and-up estimates and knock-togethers I was seeing.
There are about 4 gutter-cover places coming to give me a free estimate on what do to about the house gutters, and just in time too - I found a squirrel nesting in the leaves in one of them!
And while I still want to rip the bathroom out to the bare walls and subfloor and just start over, what I'm going to do is get a series of estimates on getting a new all-in-one shower (including leakproof base) shoved into the shower area, with a proper door instead of the curtain that's only adding to the leakage problem. Then once the actual problem is fixed, I can take longer just dealing with the aesthetic issues - the ugly, peeling wallpaper; the lack of lighting; the inconvenient mirror setup; the uneven floor tile - as time and money allow.
