Generic One Size Fits All Post
Jul. 24th, 2010 09:12 pmFor about two days I've been off the internet because Mo got hit with a computer virus and needed modem time to unfix it, and today I've been down in Richmond seeing the Tiffany exhibit. (It has a stunning collection, and they were trying something new - in addition to the "dial this number for more information" part of the audio tour, they had a "dial this number to hear a musical selection to complement this piece." It was an excellent idea, but both numbers really need to be silkscreened in big numbers somewhere high, so that the people in the back can listen while they're waiting for the crowds to part and give them their chance.
Two things of note of the exhibit (because I'm not even going to try to use 1000 words to describe the glass)
- The leading artists of the Tiffany Studio (none of whom were actually named Tiffany) got full credit for their work. Did you know that the famous wisteria lamp was designed by a woman?
- Like quilting growing out of the need to use up fabric scraps, the famous Tiffany lamps arose from the urge to make all the little leftover bits of glass useful.
We also saw the standing Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, and Art Deco exhibits, plus the ones on sporting art (lots of horses, and a whole string of paintings some nobleman commissioned of him falling off over jumps (!)) and the tiny Faberge room.
So, been offline for a while & now I've got 50 tabs open & I have no idea if I'll have a chance to read them all, much less how much attention I'll be paying. So pick the appropriate comment out of the list below:
- You ROCK!
- Aw, hell, I'm sorry
- ((hugs))
- Isn't that incredible?
- People like that make you just want to leave this planet, don't they?
- Interesting link. Thanks!
- Nice fic! My favorite line was < fill in your favorite >
- SQUEEE!
- When I've done that, I cooked it for about 10 minutes longer/less, and it came out perfectly
- Yeah, it hit 102F here today.
- WTF fandom?
- Yay fandom!
- Thank you for pointing me at that hilarious Eleven/Rory screwdriver fic. Seriously, why has it taken so long for this to exist?
