It's not technically new year yet but I've got a little bit of breathing time right now so...

I failed at both new year's resolutions for 2010. And, as I've learned before, not posting a monthly and/or weekly roundup means that sooner or later I don't have anything to discuss.

So next year, I'm going back to my original model: I've written up a big list of what I want to get done in 2011 from the large (redo living room) to the tiny (the wash cloths I want to knit to fill Mother's 2011 Christmas stocking). Each month that will be reposted, with whatever I've done crossed out. There may be weekly posts too.

I know that this isn't of interest to a lot of people, but it keeps me on track and to my surprise, there are some of y'all who actually read it. So that's what I'm going to do - under cut, of course!

There's a lot of knitting on here and my sprained finger refuses to heal. So I hope I can get it done without messing up my hand!

Meta

The Baker Streete Supper Club has opened voting for the first Mummy Awards. Nominees include a bunch of places I didn't know about, so I'm passing on for that reason. Not that y'all can't vote too...

A discussion at [livejournal.com profile] sherlockbbc on Why do they have the greatest friendship of all time?

Classic Sherlock Holmes Fic
In which the British Medical Journal - no, really, the real BMJ - publishes a Christmas Holmesian whodunit: Well, what do you think? Should you and I collaborate to match up some medical comments in the Sherlock Holmes canon with articles published in the BMJ?ā€

I'm adding this more for the novelty than the actual writing, mind you. But someone at the BMJ was having fun.

Fic

I'm not entirely sure how I managed to drop this off my last rec list, but I'm making up for the lack now: Friends in Embarrassing Places, in which Lestrade finds out about both the ASBO and Sherlock's refusal to do anything about it, and takes steps.

Whither Thou Goest, wherein Sherlock finds out just how far John is willing to follow him. Dark fic... but but not too dark.

To perk things up after that, the crack!fic Mycroft's Minions. Scenes from the unsung heroes of the active surveillance team.

These next two don't have anything to do with each other, but together they are an irresistible double feature. Start with I Used to Live Alone Before I Knew You. It's by [livejournal.com profile] etothepii, who also wrote the ghost!John and werewolf!everybody fics I recced, so by this time you should be ready for a description that reads like "well, all righty then" but leads to a story with an actual (and cohesive) plot and solid characterization. In this case, it's a fusion with Good Omens, "Where Mycroft is an angel, Sherlock is a demon, and John is still John."

John stumbles into Sherlock's life by chance, and he is, surprisingly enough, a good man. Actually a good man, not just a man who considers himself good, or one who does good things in order to impress others.

But Sherlock is very experienced at pushing good people to do bad things, and it takes him less than twenty-four hours to have John shoot a man dead in cold blood.

And yet...

Do not miss [livejournal.com profile] dauntdraws' art for it either, but look after reading, as it's a spoiler.

Having read that, proceed immediately on to the crackalicious How To Accidentally Summon a Demon, in which Sherlock accidentally gets possessed by a demon... and John doesn't even notice.

Like I said, an irresistible double feature.

And then there's a NSFW trio of smut:

Lumonisity (John/Sherlock) which I'm mostly reccing because I like the bit where Sherlock tells John that he loves him for his mind and personality ("I’d still love you if you were a woman who smelled like – boiled cabbage –") and the "... I'll be in my bunk" John/Sherlock/Sarah double feature Surveilled and Problems & Solutions, in which... do I really need to draw a picture? Occasionally has bouts of actual plot.
