The Fourth Day of Christmas is Cancelled
Dec. 27th, 2010 05:45 pmI wasn't kidding about being ready to celebrate Christmas a bit later, and was hoping to at least milk the holiday spirit through all 12 days... only as far as much of the world is concerned, it's all done and dusted. No more carols on the radio; heck, 48 hours later the stores have stripped out even the remains of the picked-over Christmas merchandise.
I know the world isn't fair, and I know a lot of people are sick of it/don't want it shoved down their throats anyway, but there's just something extra wrong about the fact that as far as the radio and stores are concerned, Christmas stuff and music will show up as nauseatingly early as August, but then the vast majority of the 12 days of the actual holiday get ignored.
Ikea doesn't even have New Year's merchandise. It looks suspiciously like President's Day/Fourth of July stuff.
