On Monday, I lost two hours of work because I had to go to Subaru of Annapolis to deal with the "check engine" light, which had come on in the car I bought from Steve Moyer Subaru. (It was the second time the light had turned on in the time since I bought the car from Steve Moyer Subaru at the end of July.)

Subaru of Annapolis did $350 worth of repairs.

The light turned back on this morning. Didn't even stay off an entire week.

Since I have no alternative than to drive said car back to Smap's to take care of the dogs at least one more time, and then to Subaru of Annapolis on Monday, that light had better be on for something simple, and something that won't injure the engine. It's impossible to tell, which is why I hate "check engine" lights. You have no idea if the car needs a tighter gas cap or if it's going to strand you on the highway.

On Monday, Subaru of Annapolis is going to FIX THAT DAMNED THING FOR FREE SO THAT THE LIGHT STAYS OFF because I'm going to make it quite clear that there is no other alternative. And when they pick up and deliver the car I'd better be seeing some contrition instead of the casual "Oh, sure, we'll look at it but you can't bring it in today because we're full up" attitude I got on the phone when I called.

Subaru of Annapolis has fucked up bigtime, and they had better damned well acknowledge and fix the problem, or getting bitched about on LJ by name is going to be the least of their PR problems.

As for Steve Moyer Subaru of Reading, Pennsylvania... well, they sold me the car that's giving me this grief, and it's been into the shop three times since I bought it on July 20 of this year. Bear this in mind if you know anybody who plans on doing any business with that business. It would be one thing if I'd bought the car used from Crazy Pete's Preowned Autos, but no, I bought a Subaru from a Subaru dealer, and all they've managed to make me do so far is dearly wish I'd stuck with Saturn. The amount of money I've put into that P.o.S. that Steve Moyer Subaru car, between payments, down payment, and repairs would have more than offset the price of fixing up my old Saturn SW.

And Saturn of Silver Spring never, ever, made me come back into the shop within 4 days of a previous repair.

Steve Moyer Subaru will also be called (again) on Monday, as soon as I know the underlying problem and how Subaru of Annapolis managed to overlook it. And then we're going to have a little discussion about product reliability, warranties, and lemon laws.

Hopefully, I can resolve all of this in two phone calls - one to Subaru of Annapolis to find out how they're going to make this up to me, and one to Steve Moyer Subaru. Because if you think I'm livid now, you don't want to know what I'm going to be like if I have to make call #3 to American Express saying "Refuse the charge, they didn't do the work" and if there has to be a call #4 to anybody, it's going to go to a lawyer, who's going to have a very pointed and expensive discussion with all the Subaru people about product reliability, reliable repairs, and lemon laws.

In the meantime, I'll tell y'all for free what I'm willing to put in a bigass ad in the newspaper - Subaru of Annapolis' repairs can't be trusted to last a week, and Steve Moyer Subaru of Reading PA sold me a forester that can't stay out of the shop.

Go you!!!!! Bring the mongrels to their knees. Wonder how much of this crap is because you're a woman? Cause I wouldn't put it past 'em. Car yards. Last bastion of serious sexist shit.

The third party garage I went to when I'd paid the Saturn off alway calls me little lady and dear - but it also fixed my car quickly so that it stayed fixed.

If the dealer thought he was going to pull one over on me because I'm female, he should have also thought that he had been dealing with my parents and hoped to make a sale to them in the future. Needless to say, I'm telling them to run like hell.

I'm also about to look into trade-ins. There's a limit to how much shit I'm going to put up with.

Oh, YIPES. Utter sympathies.

Do you think going to Subaru corporate HQ over the heads of both of these dealers would help?

If I don't get satisfaction tomorrow that will be one of the next steps. Along with telling American Express to refuse the payment and contacting a lawyer.
