neadods5th page, Washington Post headline this morning: US Demands More Abortion Records.
Basically, the demand for medical records has expanded to six Planned Parenthood affiliates, including the ones in DC, NYC, LA and apparently state-wide for PA, KS & MO. Why? Because Planned Parenthood has filed suit against the original attempts of the Justice Department to look at medical records to see if the 'partial birth' process was really "medically necessary."
Like a lawyer who publicly announced anti-abortion plans even KNOWS from "medically necessary" vs "I can abuse my power on page 5 while they talk about gay marriage and The Passion on page 1."
I used to go to a DC Planned Parenthood. No, I didn't get an abortion of any kind. But that doesn't mean that I ever want Osama Bin Ashcroft to go pawing through my records looking diddly; if he wins the right to go looking for one kind of abortion, it won't be too much longer before he goes looking for other kinds, and then right down the slippery slope to single women looking for contraceptives. (No, I'm not being paranoid. This is the same administration that put a man who refused to give single women contraceptives on a panel advising about women's health issues. There are people vested in this issue already in positions of power in this administration.)
Not to mention that whole troubling issue of facts and this administration. Where are the WMD that we "knew where they are"? Why is the medicaid budget over a third what it was supposed to be? Nobel scientists are writing letters of protest about how this administration twists facts.
