One of the great joys about the new job was being able to sleep in until 6am and then go to work early to catch up on email there. And then I spent a week in meetings where I ended up getting up at 5:30 again to do my email *here* before going up there.

Damned if I didn't get more done; was able to download vids and read racy stuff and even throw in the occasional load of laundry before heading out. Darnit, I really didn't want to start getting back up at 5:30 again, but it's looking like the most logical response, at least while I'm mainlining the Whoniverse.

Speaking of which... when someone puts up a post saying how annoyed they are that some fans are jubilating because video canon has blown away some rather bizarre book canon, not that they could care less what anyone else considers canon... yeah. That's a really convincing argument, there. (And honestly, since when did any fandom mix its canon? At least without distinguishing between "original" and "extended"? Book canon and video canon have always been separate-and-unequal in any other fandom I've been in, with the original media taking precedence. Including this one, lo those many years ago.)

Anyway, on to the monthly resolution list. Going to be a busy weekend, but everything in it counts towards July, so might as well post this now.

How old were the fans? The 12-22 age group? The age that disses because it's the only way they can speak up and besides isn't everyone else doing it? (Then again you can be between 40 and 60 and do this too...)

Older in this case - I'm finding that it's the older fans (30-40ish) who have a deathgrip on the alternate canon that kept the fandom alive during the hiatus.

In this particular case, a history-of-Gallifrey book postulates that the Time Lords were sterile and "wove" new children from looms. Although it was only mentioned in Lungbarrow and was controversial even then, there are a surprising number of people who are shoving everything, including new canon into that worldview.

And having fits because everyone who thinks that was the stupidest idea they ever heard of is making great hay out of a throwaway line in the latest Dr. Who episode. I'm one of those, and have been challenged that I mustn't throw stones until I can prove I've read Lungbarrow.

I keep meaning to read Lungbarrow just so I can go "WTF???" from a more authoritative position. ;-) But everything I know about it -- not just the Looms thing -- is so off-putting...

You and me both!

And now someone's bitching that we won't all fit all canon into the prism of the wonder that is Lungbarrow not that anyone else's opinion is worth noting... yeah, right.

FWIW? I'd give anything to have the alarm go off at 6 instead of 5:30.

But I've got less practice at this than you do.

It was wonderful while it lasted, it really was. There's something psychological about that last half hour.

I read that quickly and thought it was "Finnish Doctor Who"

Which...wouldn't that be different?

Now I've got the Monty Python credits for "Holy Grail" running through my head...

And I have the opening number of Spamalot. (Assuming it is still the opening number, having only seen it on opening night of the Chicago tryout...)

Audios/Books on Tape listened to:

I've lost track...have you listened to The Fearmonger? I think it's my favorite of the first seven (which is what we have thus far).

Not yet. Not sure I even have it; my collection is a very random one, although I will doubtless be plugging holes for a while. I may end up doing the subscription after all; I'm already looking into ways of getting the Dr. Who Magazine, in which I think I am two issues behind.
