Blog for Choice Day

Today is Blog for Choice Day. While I'm more than happy to stand up for my convictions, I'm a lot more conflicted about blogging for them. I've had plenty to say on the subject as the topics come up, just writing isn't enough.
In a world where activist groups of any side can unleash thousands of identical pre-canned emails in support of/against the cause du jour, there is something all the more powerful of the sight of people - hundreds of thousands, arguably over a million - undeniably individual PEOPLE standing up to be counted. And that's why I think the March for Women's Lives counted more than any dozen blogposts I can make. Because a picture really is worth 1000 words and never, never in the history of our nation has the National Mall been that full of humanity. No political rally, no anti-war gathering, nothing has gathered that many for a cause as that gathering of women, men, and children in support of contraception and abortion rights.
I wonder if we're going to have to gather every year just so people can cut past the signal-to-noise ratio online and see, undeniably witness, the vast majority that is willing to get up and get out and be counted for the cause of women's rights. Because I guarantee you, we will always outnumber those on the forced-birth cause.
Other links for today:
My LJ memories regarding the march and aftermath This also includes the links to "The Only Moral Abortion is Mine" about anti-choicers getting abortions for themselves while trying to deny them to others and the link to a woman who discovered that her pro-life buddies weren't interested in the life of her mulatto baby.
Daily Kos on the price paid in women's lives in antiabortion states and the social and health benefits of legal abortion
The wording of the Bush "Sanctity of Life Day" declaration interspersed with pictures of just what happens to life that isn't white or rich enough to be sanctified under this administration. The picture under "my Administration is committed to protecting our society's most vulnerable members" is a particular kicker.
