Sometimes Occam's Razor applies to tasks. On my resolutions list was to take one of my many baskets, fix a broken strut, fit & sew a lining with pockets into it, and dedicate it to taking to knitting classes - a job that would take the better part of a day, if not a weekend, and involve a run to the crafts store.
Tired of staring at it and running out of time till my deadline, I grabbed another basket - one that didn't need to be fixed - tossed all my little bits and bobs into a compartmented box I already had and threw that in the new basket, and personalized it by making a pair of beaded danglies that read "LINNEAS KNITTING." Total time, including finding all the letters in a big bag of plastic beads: 40 minutes. With no special trips or extra expense. (Yeah, someday I want to do something involving paint, a wood burner, or decoupage on the temptingly flat and plain piece of wood that serves as a basket lid, but the point is, the task I needed to have done is done, and in a fraction of the time.)
What project do you have that "Keep It Simple, Stupid" could clear out of your way? Do you have something that is just so elaborate that you'll never do it? How else can you get it done, with less fuss?
ETA: Why do I have this mental block about putting
homekeeping posts here? (But since they get more comments here, I think I'm going to start crossposting.)

Date: 2007-02-07 03:46 pm (UTC)First day of vacation sorted. Stuff to toss. Stuff to keep. Stuff that I have 6 of. Tie cords into loops. Sort software.
All fits back in box and the lid goes on. Time=1 hour.
Feeling of accomplishment - priceless.

Date: 2007-02-07 08:28 pm (UTC)I've had great success doing things like that, or even one task a week for weeks that are just crazed.
By the way, to answer another comment that I've got in my "get around to answering this" queue, how about the first Saturday in March? And I just got the DVD player that not only plays avis, but will be region-free. Have you ever seen the Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) with David Tennant in it? (Wearing a wedding dress, yet!)

Date: 2007-02-10 08:57 pm (UTC)I cooould do it on Saturday, but is it too late to request we have the viewing on that Sunday, instead? Our schedule will be somewhat more flexible on sunday than it is on Saturday, and my husband will be home on Sunday, but isn't always home on Saturday. And whether we get together Sat or Sun, how early would you be able to come? *^_^*
And No, I don't think I have seen the Randall and Hopkirk with David Tennant, where he wears a dress! That sounds great! I'd love to see it!
Are there any particular episodes that you would like to see, that I might have, that I can dig out for you when you come? *^_^*

Date: 2007-02-15 06:07 pm (UTC)I can bring the Sarah Jane Adventures and find the DT in a dress episode (I also have the Mrs. Bradley mystery with David Tennant and Peter Davison).
As for what I want to see - Sarah Jane or Nyssa anything!

Date: 2007-04-23 04:36 am (UTC)*chuckles* My mind is so silly late at night. It took me forever to "solve" the mystery of you letting me use your icon if I payed for it over a credit card. Just couldn't grasp that you meant that you wanted me to let people know that you had made it, and that is what you meant by credit! LoL!
I'll stop babbling and rambling now, lol! But really, can I really use this icon if I credit you?
