I don't know which is more embarrassing, the headline or the comment about it.

Swiss Accidentally Invade Liechtenstein . Liechtenstein's response? Interior ministry spokesman Markus Amman said nobody in Liechtenstein had even noticed the soldiers.

D'oh! (I need a "gobsmacked" on my mood list)

It sounds more like accidental trespassing than invasion. Almost as if the media were deliberately using attention-grabbing words to sensationalize the event... hm, now would the media do such a thing?

(The book, of course. Not the movie.)

"You mean we have been successfuly invaded by fourteenth-century Europeans?"

I think that only counts if Lichtenstein *wins*...

(disclaimer: I didn't know Liechtenstein was still an independent entity. i thought it was swallowed up into the Czech republic between the wars.)

comments:
1) gee, what if we held a war and nobody noticed.

2) good thing the Liechs didn't show up, 'cause the swiss had just installing the laser sighters on their knives

3) should have taken that left turn at the Barony of Albuquerque.

4) this is SUCH a "Grand Duchy of Fenrick" in reverse its almost not funny...almost.

we could probably come up with a decent "top 10" out of this if we work a little harder...

I laughed at this when I first saw it. And then I remembered I got lost in Liechtenstein. Now I feel bad for laughing so hard. *headdesk*

Wasn't this the premise of a Peter Sellers film in the 60s?

Sort of. The Mouse that Roared is about a tiny country that successfully invades America. The book is so much better!

Clearly the compasses in their Swiss Army knives weren't working.

Given that it took 110 years for Russia to notice that it was at war with Berwick on Tweed I think that the Liechtenstein spokesman may be forgiven.

So much for being 'neutral'....

I'd guess an accidental invasion is the only kind a neutral country can perform. :-)

Oh, Switzerland! I've told you - only 15 steps past the tree. You've gone 20 steps and now we're in Lichtenstein.
