Aha, so that's where the "Dear Author" about vacuum cleaners came from! I'm glad to see that this was the one serious flaw in an otherwise-worthy first attempt.
Also interesting was the scathing review of The Hounds and the Fury. I haven't read that one yet, but the reviewer points out a number of the same issues I've been having with the series as a whole. I'll definitely be reading that one from the library.
